According to NESN’s Gio Rivera, recently traded Boston Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon may be unwilling to sign another contract this offseason, as the Portland Trail Blazers have plenty to offer the guard to keep him happy in the Rose City.
“There’s no guarantee that Brogdon even wants to leave Portland in the first place,” Rivera said of the Los Angeles Clippers considering Brogdon as a backup plan if they can’t snag James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers. “Besides, the Trail Blazers could offer a starting spot plus a very valued veteran voice while the Clippers have a faulty core, but on the flip side, do offer championship potential.
Brogdon, along with Robert Williams III and numerous future first-round picks, assisted the Celtics in acquiring Jrue Holiday, a game-changing trade that, according to bookies, considerably improved the C’s title odds. He was a valuable role player for the Celtics as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2022-23 season, but his dissatisfaction with the franchise made the partnership untenable once his name was linked to the original Kristaps Porzingis deal. As a result, the trade.
Malcolm Brogdon will not be moving on after signing with the Boston Celtics.
Brogdon isn’t especially interested in finding a new home, even if it brings him closer to title contention than his current situation with the developing Trail Blazers. At Portland’s training camp, the Atlanta native informed reporters.
“I want to be here,” Brogdon said to reporters at training camp, according to team video. “There is a lot of misinformation out there about ‘they need to trade me or I want to go to (a contender).’ I’m currently attempting to make the most of my opportunity. That’s exactly what it is, and right now it’s taking on a leadership role with these young boys, which I’m relishing.”
Brogdon’s name will be mentioned in trade speculations. Just don’t hold your breath waiting for anything to happen.
