Jake Allen Guentzel, born on October 6, 1994, is an American professional ice hockey player who plays as a left winger for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was picked by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft as the 77th overall pick.
Guentzel began his professional career with the Penguins’ AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, in the 2016-17 season. Notably, his NHL debut came on November 21, 2016, against the New York Rangers, where he scored two goals. However, the Penguins lost the game. Guentzel faced a setback when he suffered a concussion from a hit by Ramus Ristolainen of the Buffalo Sabres on March 21,2017. Despite this, he returned to make a significant impact, including scoring a hat-trick in the playoffs, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2017.
On March 7, 2024, while recovering from an injury, Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, along with Ty Smith, in exchange for several players and draft picks. He returned to action shortly after the trade, scoring his first goal for the Hurricanes on March 17, 2024.
