The Detroit Lions have taken multiple steps toward keeping their core together after last season’s NFC North title, but quarterback Jared Goff’s contract remains a question mark.
General manager Brad Holmes addressed Goff’s status during a Thursday appearance on WXYT (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk) and said he has “faith that it’s going to get done” as the two sides continue to negotiate.
“First and foremost, he’s earned an extension,” Holmes said. “It’s important, it’s a high priority for us and both sides are working really, really hard and these things just take time.”
Last month, the Lions agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract extension with $77 million guaranteed for wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. They also agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract extension with $85 million guaranteed for offensive tackle Penei Sewell.
As for Goff, there is still time to get a deal done even if it is somewhat pressing since he is entering the final year of his contract. He is set to make a base salary of $22.3 million in 2024, which ranks him eighth among all quarterbacks, per Spotrac.
