(Detroit CBS) – A Detroit Lions fan who coloured his hair blue during the team’s playoff run has passed away and was receiving hospice care.
In an effort to support the Lions, Saginaw resident Larry Benjamin, 83, colored his hair Honolulu blue. This photo went viral. Amon-Ra St. Brown, a wide receiver with the Lions, served as an inspiration to him when he colored his hair blue ahead of the team’s playoff matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
On Sunday, March 10, his son Jeff Benjamin announced on social media that his father had passed away earlier in the day.
“To everyone who supported my Dad’s blue haired pursuit of a @Lions Super Bowl, know that he is now in peace,” Benjamin tweeted. “Earlier this morning, he died away while sleeping. Many thanks for all the support, @amonra_stbrown.”
In response to the post, St. Brown said, “RIP, Mr. Benjamin.”
St. Brown had sent Larry Benjamin an autographed jersey with the words, “To: Larry The Man,” after noticing his blue hair during the playoff run. Continue to be a beast. world’s greatest fans. One sense of pride!”
