J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback at Michigan, has been rapidly rising up draft boards and is predicted to be selected in the top four in April’s selection by most accounts.
That does not, however, imply that he is faultless.
“Scouts still want to see a better understanding of how to mix speeds on his throws,” Jordan Reid of ESPN reports. McCarthy’s pro day revealed that he is a fastball-only passer who still has to learn when and how to touch a throw.”
Regarding McCarthy, perspectives differ. In early March, the B/R NFL Scouting Department released its most recent big board, and he was placed just 54th overall, behind Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Caleb Williams.
However, clubs frequently overdraft quarterbacks. In his most recent mock draft, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network predicted that the Minnesota Vikings will move up to the No. 4 selection in order to choose McCarthy. During his recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show, he also mentioned that the McCarthy hype train is “not a smokescreen.”
Therefore, even if McCarthy still has to work out a few bugs in his game, NFL teams appear to be convinced that he can handle them well enough at the next level.
