According to authorities, relatives alerted them on Saturday that they were unable to locate either Sergio Brown or his mother, Myrtle Brown.
MAYWOOD, Il. — Monday, when his mother’s 73-year-old body was discovered next to a stream behind her suburban Chicago home, authorities looked for the former NFL quarterback.
Family members reported to Maywood police on Saturday that they were unable to locate Myrtle Brown or 35-year-old Sergio Brown.
Myrtle Brown’s corpse was discovered by officers, and on Sunday, a medical examiner concluded that she had suffered injuries during an attack. According to accounts in the local media, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office declared her death to be a murder.
In 2010, Sergio Brown became an undrafted free agent and joined the NFL. He joined the New England Patriots and was a defensive back until the team dismissed him before the 2012 NFL season began.
On September 1, 2012, he signed a contract with the Colts, and he played for the team until 2014. After that, he spent a season as a player with the Jacksonville Jaguars until signing the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons in August 2016. He spent seven days as a member of the Falcons.
During the 2016 season, he participated in his last NFL games with the Buffalo Bills.
After completing his studies at Maywood’s Proviso East High School, he enrolled in Indiana’s University of Notre Dame.
