A week ago, Aaron Donald announced his retirement from the NFL, leaving a massive opening in the center of the Los Angeles Rams defensive line.
The Rams will have to learn how to play defense without the luxury of having Donald ruin every play for the opposition offensive line for the first time since the 2013 campaign.
Los Angeles is making every effort to make up for the loss of the multiple-time Defensive Player of the Year, even though it will be difficult to find a replacement anytime soon. One such move, according to the 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov on Twitter on Friday, is the re-signing of veteran defensive lineman Larrell Murchison to a one-year contract.
After being released by the Tennessee Titans in December 2022, Murchison was acquired on waivers by the Rams and has been a member of the team ever since.
The Titans welcomed him into the league for the first time when they picked him out of North Carolina State in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
During his time with Tennessee, Murchison only managed to record 13 tackles and two quarterback pressures in 26 games, thus he wasn’t particularly productive.
But after joining the NFL in 2020, his 2023 season with the Rams was by far his finest single-season performance.
Last season, Murchison had 15 appearances for Los Angeles, including three starts. He ended with 16 tackles and two quarterback pressures.
