Detroit — The Detroit Lions addressed three serious issues on Monday, two days before the new league year begins.
Detroit agreed to a $10.5 million, one-year contract with edge rusher Marcus Davenport, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been formalized.
The Lions also acquired cornerback Carlton Davis from Tampa Bay in exchange for a third-round draft pick, and guard Graham Glasgow agreed to a $20 million, three-year contract with $9.5 million in guarantees, according to another person familiar with the situation who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the transactions had not yet been announced.
Davenport rejoins Detroit coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who were New Orleans assistants for three seasons.
He spent five years with the Saints.
Davenport, 27, was drafted 14th overall in 2018. He has 23 1/2 career sacks. Last year, he had two sacks in four games for the Vikings, although he missed much of his only season due to ankle injuries. Davenport recorded a career-high nine sacks in 11 games for the New Orleans Saints in 2021.
Davis gives the Lions experience and quality in their secondary, which was frequently exploited last season, in return for the 92nd overall choice in the NFL draft.
Davis, 27, has started 10 or more games in each of his six seasons with the Buccaneers. Since his second-round selection in 2018, the former Auburn star has started 75 games.
. Davis intercepted two passes last season and has nine interceptions in the past five seasons.
Detroit could have re-signed two guards, but instead elected to keep the 31-year-old Glasgow on a relatively cap-friendly deal after starting in three postseason games. Following his second consecutive injury-shortened season, the Lions allowed Jonah Jackson to enter the NFL free agent market.
