The father of Detroit Lions linebacker Steve Longa was hit and killed by an automobile while crossing a street in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, according to LehighValleyLive.com.
Etienne Longa, 55, was struck by a Ford Escape at 10:18 a.m. as he stood near the cab of a stopped truck tractor. The investigation stated that his death was the result of an accident.
Steve Longa did not practise with the Lions on Friday, and his status for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings remains unknown.
Longa spent last season on the Lions’ practice squad and was a key special-teams player this fall. He was among eight Lions players who took a knee during the signing of National anthem during Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Etienne Longa was a professional football player and wealthy businessman in Cameroon before moving to the United States in 2002.
He first lived in Detroit before moving to New Jersey with his family, including Steve, five years later.
