At Michigan, Sherrone Moore’s staff will have a familiar face back.
According to a Knoxville News article from Thursday, former Wolverines linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary has told Tennessee head coach Josh Huepel that he intends to return to Michigan.
Though Jean-Mary (pronounced zhan-muh-ree) is likely to be appointed run-game coordinator and linebackers coach, Michigan has not officially recognized the hiring. He has been Tennessee’s linebackers coach for the past three seasons.
After working under head coach Charlie Strong for 23 years, Jean-Mary held the positions of assistant head coach and linebackers coach at Louisville from 2010 to 2013, defensive coordinator at South Florida from 2017 to 2019, linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas from 2014 to 2016, and head coach and linebackers coach at Texas from 2014 to 2016.
Moore, the first-year Michigan head coach appointed to succeed Jim Harbaugh, was Jean-Mary’s colleague at Louisville and throughout his brief tenure at Michigan. The 48-year-old assistant strengthens the team’s seasoned presence by bringing in recruits from the south.
Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Michigan has made moves in the last few days to appoint Stephen Adegoke, a former graduate assistant and NFL coach, as defensive backs coach, and Don “Wink” Martindale as defensive coordinator.
