(AP) — KANSAS CITY, MO Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs arrived at practice on Wednesday with a bright smile and plenty of energy.
Maybe he was still high on adrenaline from his son’s delivery.
Or all those late-night diaper changes were being handled by his wife.
“Brittany is a champ,” remarked Mahomes, who on Monday night welcomed Patrick “Bronze” Mahomes III into their family and gave Sterling, their 1-year-old daughter, a younger brother. “Everything went smoothly and went well.”
Fantastic. What do you think about that nickname?
“We thought of a name that could be a boy or girl because we didn’t know if it was a boy or girl when we had Sterling,” Mahomes said. We also desired for them to feel a connection. As a child, I had always desired to play Patrick Mahomes III. I always assumed it would be “Trey,” as you frequently hear. Thus, as my brother Jackson and I were attempting to come up with something original, he came up with the idea of “Bronze.” With Sterling, it fit like a glove. They can continue to connect like that in the future.
The birth of his father, Pat Mahomes Sr., and several other family members who happened to be in town, according to Mahomes, won’t have any impact on his preparation for one of the marquee games on the Chiefs’ remaining schedule.
