Auston Matthews leads the NHL with 48 goals, with six of them coming in his last two games as he takes the Toronto Maple Leafs (29-16-8) on the road Monday afternoon for a matchup with the St. Louis Blues (29-23-2) at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Maple Leafs didn’t have captain John Tavares in their win on Saturday for undisclosed reasons, while defenseman Mark Giordano is away from the team after the death of his father last week. Their blue line depth took another hit Saturday night when William Lagesson went out with an upper-body injury. Toronto has won three straight games, while the Blues come in off a loss.

Matthews recorded his second straight hat trick as the Maple Leafs routed the visiting Anaheim Ducks 9-2 on Saturday night. Bobby McMann scored twice, while William Nylander had a goal and two assists. Toronto is third in the Atlantic Division, a point ahead of Tampa Bay.
St. Louis surrendered three unanswered goals and couldn’t come back in a 5-2 loss to the visiting Nashville Predators on Saturday. Jordan Kyrou and Nathan Walker netted goals in the defeat. The loss cut the Blues’ lead over the Predators for the final Western Conference wild card spot to two points.
With his five-point game on Saturday, Matthews matched Nylander for the team lead with 71 points. Goalie Ilya Samsonov is 11-4-6 in 23 starts with an .881 save percentage and 3.25 goals-against average. Robert Thomas, Kyrou and Jake Neighbours have 19 goals apiece for St. Louis, with Thomas leading the club with 61 points. Jordan Binnington is 19-15-2 in 37 starts with a .908 save percentage and 2.93 GAA.
Toronto won the first meeting between the teams 4-1 at home on Tuesday.
