Stronghold LAUDERDALE — Dwayne Haskins was dealing with a second section for his young NFL profession. The 24-year-old quarterback was investing energy for certain partners with the Pittsburgh Steelers, preparing to vie for a beginning position.
His life was taken from him at that point.
Haskins was killed early Saturday morning when he was hit by a dump truck while he was strolling on a South Florida roadway. Lt., a spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol, Indiana Miranda said Haskins was articulated dead at the scene.
In an email statement, Miranda stated, “He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic.”
Miranda didn’t say why Haskins was on the thruway at that point. The mishap made the parkway be closed down for a few hours, and Miranda said it’s “an open traffic crime examination.”
A 2019 first-round draft pick by Washington, Haskins was delivered by the group in the wake of going 3-10 north of two seasons. He was endorsed by Pittsburgh as a formative QB, yet he didn’t show up in a game last season.
Haskins gave off an impression of being in South Florida this week with a few partners, including individual quarterback Mitch Trubisky, running back Najee Harris and tight end Pat Freiermuth.
The death of Haskins sparked a flood of condolences from across the NFL, particularly from former Steelers and Commanders teammates.
“I’m crushed and speechless with the sad passing of Dwayne Haskins,” Steelers mentor Mike Tomlin said. ” When he arrived in Pittsburgh, he quickly became a member of our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in the community. Dwayne was an incredible colleague, however much more so an enormous companion to so many. I’m genuinely shattered.
“Our contemplations and petitions to heaven are with his better half, Kalabrya, and his whole family during this troublesome time.”
When he learned of Haskins’ passing, Washington coach Ron Rivera described himself as “absolutely heartbroken.”
Rivera stated in a press release, “Dwayne was a talented young man who had a long life ahead of him.” I honestly have no words to express the depth of my sadness at this time. I realize I represent the remainder of our group in saying he will be profoundly missed. Our whole group is sending our genuine sympathies and considerations and supplications to the Haskins family as of now.”
On its Twitter feed, Ohio State included a picture of Haskins and the caption “Leader.” Legend. Always a Buckeye.
At Ohio State, Haskins set single-season standards for scores passing with 50 and yards passing with 4,831. He was the 2019 Rose Bowl MVP as the Buckeyes went 13-1.
Haskins’ passing was described as “beyond tragic” by Ohio State coach Ryan Day, who was the quarterbacks coach during his final season at the school.
“For the people who knew him intently, he was substantially more than an extraordinary football player,” Day posted on Twitter. ” He had a monster heart, deceptively mature person and an irresistible grin. The Ohio State people group and our whole football program are grief stricken.”
