In case you haven’t noticed, everyone has an opinion about everything these days.
It hasn’t changed.
It’s just that we’re exposed to it at a much higher rate these days.
And one of the questions I’ve heard from you over the past few days is what the Pittsburgh Steelers should do about the quarterback position.
Head coach Mike Tomlin will no doubt address the media at his end-of-season press conference and express some opinion on the matter, but there are plenty of other opinions to express before then.
Analyst and former WR Keyshawn Johnson has the answer to exactly what’s plaguing Tomlin’s team.
“When it comes to quarterback reinforcement for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin, here’s the player they should get,” he said on Undisputed yesterday.
“If the Chicago Bears are stupid enough to fire Justin Fields, get Justin Fields.
Get Justin Fields and turn Justin Fields into what we should get from Kenny Pickett,” he once said.
chasing a first-round pick.
But the idea itself comes with many hurdles, not least financial ones.
A month ago, Dave Bryan explained why he thinks it’s safe to ignore those who say the Steelers should pursue Field.
And, for better or worse, I think it’s reasonable to think that Fields in 2024 is unlikely at this point, if not completely impossible.
But it’s interesting what it is.
He made some progress last season and honestly has a much better touchdown rate than Pickett.
Additionally, he has already established himself as an elite runner at the quarterback position.
“Send him to Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin and his guys.
Let’s put the truck back together and put some young guys on it and see what Pittsburgh looks like in 2024,” Johnson said.
And he was also confident that Tomlin, whether it was Fields or someone else, would solve the quarterback problem and end any debate about his future.
“He’s going to solve our quarterback problem,” he said.
“And once he solves the quarterback issue, we won’t have these conversations about what type of coach he is.
We’re not even going to have those conversations.
” Unless the solution to the quarterback problem is already on the roster, I don’t know if Tomlin can snap out of mediocrity anytime soon.
In fact, it feels like all of their eggs are in Pickett’s basket, or perhaps Mason Rudolph’s if the new offensive coordinator re-signs them in hopes of maximizing their potential.
In the past 38 games Fields has started, the Bears are 10-28 (including 5-8 last year).
He averaged nearly 200 yards per game.
He also took a ridiculous amount of bags with him.
